AC
College was founded with the mission of providing the youth of the country in
general, and of Guntur and the other districts of Andhra Pradesh in particular,
the high type of Christian education. It seeks to implant in its students,
those truths which can rise men to a purer and nobler life and which are
efficacious in the building up of character. Its sponsors trust that the men
and women trained here will be filled with that spirit of service and inspired
by those ideals of life which will lead them to dedicate their lives and
talents to the best interest of their fellows and their country.

History
Beginnings
as a Anglo-vernacular schoolestablished in District
Collector's compound was handed over to Fr. Hyer in 1842. Fr. Hyer was an
American missionary who established American Evangelical Lutheran Mission in
Guntur that same year. It was supported financially by the English friends of
the missionary living in Guntur. Due to the American Civil War and financial
difficulties, the school was closed down in 1863. It was reopened in 1873 by
Dr. L. L. Uhl.
First
Affiliation as a Second Grade College: In September 1885,
it was affiliated to Madras University, known as the American
Evangelical Lutheran Mission (AELM) College.
First
College Building in 1892-93: The Arthur G. Watt's Memorial
Building was the first building of the college. It is a two storey stone
structure surmounted by a high tower - a landmark in the city.
Upgraded
as a First Grade Affiliated College: In March 1926,
the college was affiliated to Madras University as a first grade college
offering courses in Mathematics, Philosophy and History for B.A. Degree.
Affiliated
to Andhra University in 1926: This was a new era in the life of
the college - it quickly strode to occupy the place of an outstanding
institution among the colleges of the university.
Renamed
as Andhra Christian College in 1928.
B.Sc
courses were introduced in 1934 in Mathematics
and Physics.
Larger
land purchased in 1937: District Munsiff's Court Site (of seven
acres) was purchased.

to Nagarjuna University from 1971 onwards.
Upgraded
to Post-graduate Institution: 1971
AC
Law College was spun-off as a separate college in 1982,
to offer B.L degrees.
